One of the most memorable stories involves a young boy who attended our meal distribution program. Despite his family's hardships, his smile and gratitude reminded us of the profound impact our work has on individuals.

How do you balance running the organization with your personal life?

It can be challenging, but having a passionate team and a supportive family helps. We prioritize our goals, delegate effectively, and ensure we make time for self-care and family activities.

What is the most rewarding part of your work?

The most rewarding part is seeing the tangible difference we make in people's lives, whether it's a child receiving a healthy meal and hygiene bags.

How do you handle setbacks or challenges in your organization?

We view setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning. By staying flexible and open to change, we adapt our strategies and continuously improve our operations.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to get involved in community service?

Start by finding a cause you're passionate about and look for local organizations where you can volunteer. Your skills and enthusiasm can make a big difference, and you'll find it to be an incredibly fulfilling experience.

How does your organization stay motivated and avoid burnout?

Staying connected with the community and witnessing the positive changes we create keeps us motivated. Regular team retreats and personal time are also crucial for maintaining balance and avoiding burnout.

What is your vision for the future of your organization?

Our vision is to create a self-sustaining community where everyone has access to nutritious food and clothes.We aim to expand our reach and enhance our programs to make this vision a reality.

How do you celebrate successes, both big and small, within the organization?

We celebrate successes by sharing stories with our team and community, often through social media and blogs. We also organize appreciation events to recognize the hard work and dedication of our volunteers and staff.

What personal challenges have you faced during the expansion of the organization?

During our expansion, one personal challenge was managing the stress and uncertainty that comes with new projects. Balancing the excitement of growth with the fear of the unknown required a lot of resilience and faith in our mission.Alot of praying.

How did you overcome the personal challenges related to expansion?

Overcoming these challenges involved leaning on our support network, seeking guidance from mentors, and staying focused on our long-term goals. These elements provided the strength and clarity needed to navigate through tough times.

Who leads the organization, and what is their background?

CEO Steve Martin, President Teddy Cobb, and Vice President/Treasurer Nikitta Martin are a remarkable team, each contributing uniquely to their community and personal growth. Steve and Nikitta, a dedicated married couple, work tirelessly to support their family. Steve is striving to become a plant supervisor, while Nikitta is pursuing online college classes to secure a more promising career. She also plays a significant role in Save Our Selves, having designed its logo. Teddy Cobb, like Nikitta, is attending ICC in Tupelo, MS, focusing on a trade in heat and air. Having grown up in poverty and faced numerous challenges, they deeply understand the struggles of needing and not having. They exemplify resilience and the power to be the change their communities need, each with inspiring testimonies to share with people from diverse backgrounds.

How do you identify potential donors and supporters for your organization?

Finding potential donors is like hunting for treasure. You start by looking into people or groups that have shown they care about causes like yours. You can also dig up info about their backgrounds and connections. And don’t forget to check out local events and use social media to spread the word.

What are the different ways donors can contribute to your organization?

Donors can make various contributions, including one-time donations, regular payments, or leaving gifts in their wills. They can also donate furniture, canned food, and old children’s toys and clothes of all ages and genders.

How does your organization acknowledge and recognize its donors?

Acknowledgment practices can take various forms, such as personalized thank-you letters, public recognition on our website or annual reports, and donor appreciation events. Additionally, regular updates about the organization’s work and the positive impact of donations are also common.

With a wealth of talent in culinary arts, cosmetology, barbershop services, web design, body and paint, and interior design, we are eager to unite and create thriving enterprises. Our goal is to contribute positively to our communities and be recognized as outstanding citizens. Additionally, we are dedicated to investing in a shelter for those in need.

The Real Talk Tour

The Real Talk Tour, organized by the Nation of Islam Save Our Selves and The Big We Global, was a remarkable event held in Lee County, Mississippi, on November 11, 2024. This gathering united various organizations with a shared mission to tackle critical issues like black-on-black crime, gun violence, and the early exposure of youth to drugs.

We were privileged to host guest speakers from respected non-profit organizations, such as Y.A.G.A., which, like us, is committed to organizing events and fundraisers to raise funds and support our communities. Our goal was to demonstrate that despite our diverse backgrounds, communities, religions, and organizations, we could unite and support one another for the greater good of prosperity and humanity.
